This course is wonderful for beginners and experienced “green screeners” as well as ANY grade level or subject area teacher, and even administrators. You will gain the skills and provided resources to teach your students and assign these types of projects to spice up your existing curriculum, but also the confidence to create your own educational material! You will learn how to make your own homemade ‘green screen studio’ on a budget. Incorporating green screen can be truly easy as you could add it as an option to a project or unit you already teach and the benefits for students learning new skills are numerous. Everyone will also collect take-home ideas for immediate use in all curriculum areas as well as create your own green screen project using your existing curriculum. Prerequisites | Participants must have a basic knowledge of Google Drive and have set up a Google account prior to taking this course.
Course Requirement: For the introduction to Green Screen participants must have access to an IOS device and purchase an APP named DO INK for $2.99. It is also helpful if participants have access to a green screen OR plans to create a green screen studio with guidance from this course. Graduate Credit | At the first class, participants may choose to register for 1 graduate credit through Worcester State University for an additional fee of $125. All participants, including those who do not opt for graduate credit, will receive a certificate documenting the number of course hours attended. |

This is my 26th year as an educator including grades 3-8 in several subject areas. My experience includes 8 years of teaching in Missouri and I am in my 17th in the Peabody Public Schools. My experience also includes 20 years of teaching educators and administrators courses and staff development in all areas of technology. I am currently teaching grades 6th-8th where I have created a new Digital Media Arts curriculum as well as serve on the Technology team where we recently rolled out our new 1:1 Chromebook Program. Additionally, I teach courses for the Salem State Collaborative and serve as our District Coordinator. I hold a professional license as a Technology Integration Specialist and obtained 2 Master’s Degrees as well as served as Building Technology Facilitator for many years. I truly enjoy teaching Digital Media and traveling with students with the People to People International Travel Program. I also own The Painter’s Pub and LimeLightGreenScreen.Com as side jobs that continuously feed the creative pang inside me! My passion lies in teaching educators innovative and emerging technology as well as educating students about the MANY digital age career paths and all the new and exciting opportunities that await them!
Introduction Week: Let’s Get Acquainted with each other AND the course structure and tools!
This first week is incorporated to help ease participants into the workshop and familiarize everyone with the tools we will be using. Each participant will be introduced to FLIPGRID as well as create an introduction for your classmates. No worries if you are camera shy as there will be fun alternative creative ideas! You will also have a chance to log in to MassCue’s Google Classroom, join our PADLET, and become familiarized with the structure of each weekly module. My goal is to have you good and ready for the Video Production FUN we will be having!
WEEK 1: INTRODUCTION to this Fabulous Technology (for BEGINNERS and EXPERIENCED folks!) This week is focused on an introduction to Green Screen Technology and practice working with Green Screen Apps such as DO INK, VEESCOPE Live, etc. You will be introduced to proper SET-UP, PROPS, and LIGHTING.
WEEK 2: Mastering Green Screen Photography! Take your students’ and your own creativity to a whole new level with these IDEAS, TIPS and TRICKS! You will learn the more advanced tools of DO INK like the “Mask Tool.” You will also learn how to manage your footage using Google Drive as well as teaching your students the necessary skills. This week is focused on getting comfortable with Green Screen Technology and includes a LIVE WEBINAR TRAINING that will be recorded for the participants that cannot attend live.
WEEK 3: Mastering GREEN SCREEN VIDEOS! You will discover that VIDEO is a whole different world from taking still green screen photos. You will learn the basics of creating a clean and realistic video as well as how to use PROPS to enhance your creativity! You will also learn how to locate video background footage and even take some of your own.
WEEK 4: Mastering APP SMASHING! This week you will be introduced to several other apps and websites to take your Green Screen skills to a GURU level! You will learn how to incorporate special effects, stop motion, music, sound effects, and how to be creative with adding layers to your creations. Additionally, you will learn some tips and tricks on Classroom Management with using a green screen as most classrooms or schools only have one, but MANY students.
Final Project: All participants will create your own green screen project or unit for your students using your existing curriculum.
