"Digital Tools for Digital Kids"

Kids have been working with paper, books, pencils, erasers and blackboards for years. Our students have been watching television their entire lives. Isn't it about time that we have students create their own media to showcase what they have learned? Shouldn't our students actively use multimedia technology instead of watching it? Using iLife in the classroom is a great way for students to learn while illustrating important concepts!

In this session, teachers will see many examples of student work, including iMovies, Podcasts, Blogs and Songs that were created to increase concept attainment in science. The methods that we will discuss can be used in any class, especially in an enrichment classroom.

In addition to discussing how to use iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, iWeb and .Mac in the classroom, we will also show how to work with your gifted and talented teachers. We will show that it is possible to have students get involved even if you don’t have a lot of equipment. As a group, we will discuss methods to manage time as well as equipment. We will discuss ways to arrange student groups for success and still have time to cover your curriculum. A rubric for product evaluation will be shared.
